The Law Association of New Zealand and its Criminal Law Committee are delighted to announce their inaugural Criminal Law Forum, set to take place on Thursday 20 November 2025.

This event will bring together leading voices from across the profession to confront some of the most topical developments and pressing issues facing the criminal justice system today.

Chaired by Julie-Anne Kincade KC, Convenor of TLANZ’s Criminal Law Committee, and developed with input from Committee members, the programme promises dynamic discussion and sharp insight into the challenges faced by criminal practice today.

This forum will cover: 

• Discover how the District Court is evolving to deliver faster, fairer criminal justice through new initiatives and procedural reforms.
• Explore the impact of recent and proposed sentencing reforms and what they mean for criminal practice.
• Navigate the complexities of Firearms Prohibition Orders and learn how to advocate for a rights-consistent approach in this developing area of law.
• An overview of the Manukau Family Violence Pilot and wider District Court initiatives tackling family violence.
• Gain insight into how Te Whare Whakapiki Wairua is reshaping justice through a therapeutic, recovery-focused approach.

The session will be followed by networking and refreshments, a chance to connect with colleagues and continue the discussion.
