Keynote Workshop: How to Lead in Law in 2025

Auckland

In 2025, leadership will play a vital role in addressing both opportunity and issue in the New Zealand legal industry.

The opportunity will be that as businesses become more optimistic and active, forward-looking firms will look to lift their performance to maximising the opportunities of an economy returning to growth.

The issue, as recently publicised research has highlighted, is that more than one-third of Kiwi lawyers and law students are suffering psychological distress. With 25% of all lawyers ranked in the severe to extreme category of depression, anxiety and stress. This suggest that many lawyers may have lower, but still counter-productive, levels of stress.

That same research shows that firms with a “positive work environment” are significantly happier.

From a leadership perspective, these issues are linked. Psychological safety and wellbeing are the foundation of performance for individuals and teams. Leaders who build wellbeing are building performance.

This sought-after half-day leadership workshop will provide practical steps to lifting wellbeing and performance in your firm. It will define contemporary leadership, define psychological safety and how to build it and manage stress in your people.

It will explore leadership styles that lift wellbeing and performance, and build culture. It will break down the key performance-enhancing leadership skills of coaching and feedback. It will show how to build a high-performing team and shine light on leading Gen Z, those in your firm in their early-mid 20s.
