
Gary Hughes is a leading independent barrister based at Britomart Chambers, with over 25 years' experience in regulatory investigations, enforcement, Inquiries and advice. His work ranges across commercial regulatory and corporate misconduct problems, dealing with agencies such as the Commerce Commission, Serious Fraud Office, AML/CFT Supervisors, Privacy Commission, or with BRANZ, MBIE/DBH and EQC specifically in building sector regulatory disputes.
Handling consumer and competition law issues in the building, construction, roading and infrastructure sectors, Gary has had a role in many Commerce Commission cartel cases over the last 15 years, including in building product supplies. Recently, he represented ITM in the Commission's deep Market Study Inquiry, and also acts for nationwide group-home builders and suppliers, importers, developer clients.
Internationally, Gary has pro bono roles with anti-bribery/supply chain transparency body TRACE International, and the International Bar Association where is a member of the Antitrust division, and Chair of the AML & Sanctions Experts committee.
