Carole Curtis

Description

Carole was admitted to the bar in 1989 and initially practised commercial law but then had the privilege of working with the then partner Stan Thorburn (later his Honour, Judge Thorburn) and practised family law for 18 years.

She formed her own law firm, Marshall Bird & Curtis to specialise in all aspects of immigration law but especially refugee law and she still practises in refugee law today.

Carole also regularly appears as a duty lawyer in the Auckland District Court.

Her great passion however has been mental health law and she was a Convenor of the former ADLS Mental Health and Disability Law Committee for some 15 years and practised in this area of law for almost 30 years.

Carole was appointed as a District Inspector in late January 2024 and enjoys the role very much.
