Scott was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in New Zealand in 2003 and as a Solicitor in England and Wales in 2008.
Scott practices exclusively in criminal law. He has a busy trial and appellate practice focusing on serious crime.
Between 2014 and 2017, Scott was a member of the Public Defence Service in Auckland before moving to the independent bar in late 2017.
Scott was a member of Blackstone Chambers in Auckland from October 2017 to mid-2023 and is now a member of the newly-formed Augusta Chambers.
