In Aotearoa New Zealand, Mental Health and Disability Law are dynamic areas of practice that need a pool of knowledgeable, committed practitioners.

Dedicated to the memory of the late Judge Recordon and his zealous work in advocacy for people with mental health conditions or with other disabilities, this On Demand is aimed at those who practise, or have an interest, in these areas of advocacy. 

The session will provide practical guidance and timely updates through:

• An overview of the key piece of legislation, the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992.
• An overview of the mental health conditions commonly affecting clients.
• An update on recent case law and legislative developments.
• Insights into the role of the District Inspector, and emerging issues. 
• Judicial insight into practicalities of legal representation for people who are mentally unwell or have other disabilities.
