Synopsis:
For children who offend, how their situation is managed in either the Family Court or Youth Court jurisdiction can affect outcomes there but also the trajectory of their lives. In some locations, the Crossover Court operates – what does this involve and how might a crossover list and case management be replicated elsewhere? How can Youth Advocates, Lawyer for Child, Police and the Crown help make a difference to these young lives?
In this Paper, our experienced panel will provide information, insights and practical guidance to help you identify the problems for these children early on and to improve your expertise when acting for them.
These Materials will help you:
- Improve your understanding about why knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act and about Care and Protection are essential to making a real difference to outcomes for children with offending behaviour.
- Develop your awareness of how Northland is leading the way in the crossover space.
- Gain insights into how those acting and working in this space can become more effective, regardless of their location, particularly by being proactive, managing cases and working collaboratively.
Intended Audience:
Youth advocates and Lawyer for Child, Police and the Crown.
